Abstract

Populism, as a polysemic concept, has not been able to reach the female leaderships that can be considered as populists. This research work is a contribution to a theoretic conceptualization of populist female leadership in Latin America. It aims to study gender as an analytical category in political leadership through the gender studies of Judith Butler (1990) and Raewyn Connell (1993), to show a conceptual link between gender and female political leaderships in Latin America. Among the main results in this research, it was evidenced that that gender is performed as a category by female political leaders in a structurally male political system, likewise, there is an epistemological hegemony in gender studies over the knowledge from the periphery (Abya Yala).
